Asthma

An inflammatory lung disease characterized by wheezing, shortness of breath and chest tightness. Asthma is characterized as an obstructive lung disorder and is due to inflammation of the small passages in the lungs that limits oxygen exchange. Without proper oxygen exchange, patients begin to experience symptoms. Asthma is often intermittent and is characterized by attacks of inflammation that results in symptoms. Asthma is seen in children and adults and can be influenced by genetic as well as environmental factors.

While albuterol inhalers are well-known management options, cannabis has also been used off-label to ease asthma symptoms because cannabinoids have anti-inflammatory properties.
