Cardiovascular Disease

Also known as heart disease, this is essentially characterized by the blockage or narrowing of arteries around the heart. While the heart is responsible for pumping blood throughout the body and bringing it back to receive oxygen in the lungs, it is also dependent on its own vascular network to function. Without proper blood supply, the heart struggles to function causing chest pain, elevated blood pressure and can leave important organs without properly oxygenated blood. At this time, heart disease is the number one cause of death in the world. Heart disease is also associated with atherosclerosis, a disease that leads to plaque formation in the vessel walls. Atherosclerotic plaques can form anywhere. Sometimes a piece of the plaque breaks off, travels down the bloodstream, and gets stuck in a smaller vessel or bifurcation which can lead to a variety of problems, including stroke, heart attack, chest pain, and death.

Medical cannabis can help control plaque formation, alleviate inflammation, and prevent narrowing of blood vessels.
