Epilepsy

A group disorder characterized by convulsive shaking or seizures. Epileptic episodes can last from minutes to hours and can be extremely dangerous for patients. During a seizure, a patient is helpless and may sustain additional injuries from falls or their own body’s uncontrolled movement. While certain drugs exist to manage epilepsy, there is still no cure for the disorder. In some cases, epileptic patients may enlist the assistance of a service animal that is trained to seek out help in the event of a seizure.

While research is ongoing, studies suggest that cannabinoids in medical cannabis can reduce or even prevent epileptic seizures.
