HIV, or the human immunodeficiency virus, is a transmissible, dangerous virus that negatively impacts the human immune system by eliminating immune cells. HIV can be transmitted sexually, through being exposed to infected blood, and from mother to child. Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is considered to be the end stage of the disease where cell counts drop to extremely low levels. Without immune cells, the body is unable to protect itself against infection. HIV and AIDS may also cause a number of unpleasant symptoms due to their long-term effects and severity.
Medical cannabis has been shown to alleviate HIV symptoms such as nausea and neuropathic pain while also exhibiting anti-bacterial and protective processes for human cells.
