Seizures

A random, uncontrolled firing of neurons in the brain which leads to loss of consciousness, uncontrollable muscle spasms, rapid eye movements and strange tastes. Seizures can be caused by a variety of disorders such as epileptic seizures and can be a risk factor of medications.

  • Tonic-clonic: Shaking of limps and spasticity. This is the most dramatic presentation
  • Myoclonic: spasm of muscles in a certain area of the body
  • Absence: characterized by paralysis, loss of cognition and small movements
  • Atonic: random, uncontrolled loss of muscle tone

Cannabinoids have been shown to soothe seizures and are prescribed under The Compassionate Use Act.
